Understand the mobile consumer

Google Mobile Ads launch a new web site to access data they collected via the “Global Mobile Research: The Smartphone User & The Mobile Marketer” they conducted earlier this year (March & July 2011) .
That way, they want to allow developer, marketer, any type of company to have a good understanding of mobile world.

Mobile Application : Active install versus Downloads

I have apps on both iOS and android and in the 2 platforms, the ratio between active install and downloads is a good way to see if apps is relevant or not.

Reading many survey, a lot of users download applications and just use them one time.
I thought it could be of interest to share such informations.

Did anyone ever seen this kind of information published ?
Sure the number of download is more gratify but the reality is not there……

Android versus iPhone : qui sera le premier ?

Selon les résultats d’un sondage de comScore publié dans Le Figaro Android a dépassé l’iPhone en France. Rien de bien surprenant quand on voit qu’il est présent sur beaucoup de smartphones avec des offres à 1 euro (sous-condition bien sur).

Si Android devient un système qu’on retrouve sur beaucoup de smartphone, il va aussi devenir un système grand public, et le grand public n’est pas geek, le grand public ne passe pas une grande partie de son temps sur internet, le grand public n’est pas fan de jeux vidéos, le grand public ne voit pas l’intérêt d’avoir un chat qui répète tout ce qu’on dit (Talking Tom Cat). Il y a encore beaucoup de personnes qui achète un téléphone portable pour ….. téléphoner ! simplement !

Donc oui Android dépasse l’iPhone pour le nombre de téléphones sur lequel il est installé mais reste à voir si le reste va suivre…

Update : pour confirmer ce qui est écrit ci-dessus, lors d’une interview(*) Raphael Chenol (Mr Mobilité de PagesJaunes), a donné quelques chiffres concernant l’application pour smartphone PagesJaunes :

  • pour le nombre de requêtes reçues depuis un smartphone : 70% viennent de iOS, 14% de Android, 11% de Blackberry, le reste est partagé par les autres OS Mobiles (dont windows phone),
  • pour le nombre de téléchargement de l’application : 3,5 millions sur iPhone, 1 million sur Android et 200 000 sur iPad.
